Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Charlotte was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy on April 24, 2009 when she was four months old. After a visit to our local ER worried that her breathing seemed rapid it was found upon x-ray that the shadow of her heart appeared larger than normal. After an ambulance ride down to Children's Hospital of Michigan it was confirmed that she was suffering from heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, and a severly enlarged left ventricle. After almost three weeks in the hospital we went home on medications, with a feeding pump and ng tubes to watch and wait, and continue to be evaluated for a heart transplant. It has now been a year and she has not had any improvement in heart function but is holding her own with the help of her medications. She walks, talks, and is quite a sassy little thing. We had no idea of what to expect from her and are so proud of her accomplishments and ability to keep up with our busy family.
